CUW Falls to St. Norbert

Written by CUW Student Assistant Lance Schulteis

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team fell to the St. Norbert Green Knights in four sets on Thursday, bringing its regular season record to 14-13.

The first set was an extremely high-scoring affair that saw neither team gain an advantage to pull ahead comfortably, and it took 33 points for the set to be decided. Ultimately, it ended up going in the direction of the Falcons, a victory secured by a kill from sophomore Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).

The second set was played to a similar tune, but the Green Knights were the team to pull away late. After Concordia scored four consecutive points to draw even at 20, St. Norbert clinched points on five of the final six rallies to even the match at one set apiece. Two kills from Alyssa Mills proved to be essential to the run, one of which was the final point of the frame to seal the victory.

The Green Knights would jump out to a 9-3 advantage in the third set before Concordia went on a run of its own to pull within two. The run was quickly answered by a St. Norbert rally that put it at a comfortable 22-16 position. A strong Concordia presence brought the score close to even, but a kill from Brooke Clement officially sealed the third set for the Green Knights.

The first three sets of the match were extremely close, and the first half of the fourth proved to be no different. The two squads were as close as 13-11 in score before St. Norbert went on a 12-2 run to clinch the set and the match. Clement collected three kills and an ace for the Green Knights down the stretch and would lead the match with 22 kills.

Senior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) led the Falcons with 17 kills on the evening, while sophomore Mickenzi Benter (De Pere, Wis.) led the team and match with 41 assists.

Concordia will be back in action on Tuesday, November 7, as they are set to take on the Lakeland Muskies in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals.
