Falcons Fall in Weekend Finale

GENEVA, Ill. – The Falcons fell in the weekend finale on Saturday night at Aurora. The Spartans secured a 6-1 victory to send the Falcons to 8-9-1 and 3-6-1 in the NCHA.

The Spartans secured two goals in the first period to take an early lead.

The Black and Blue extended the lead with a power-play goal in the second period.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard with a power-play goal from senior Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.) off assists from freshman Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) and senior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.).

Aurora added three more goals in the third period.

Junior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) had 24 saves in the start. Freshman Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) had 14 saves in relief.

The Falcons dominated the faceoff circle on the weekend. Brooke Gibson led the game with 17 victories. Senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) won 11 faceoffs on Saturday.

Sarah Tretina led CUW with nine shots.

CUW returns to action on Feb. 4 against Adrian.
