Women’s Hockey Wins Shootout at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team traveled to Marian to take on the Sabres in the first of a home and home series.

The first period came out dry after a 0-0 score as the teams got off the ice.  It didn't take long for the Falcons to score coming out of the locker room.  Senior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) scored a power-play goal in the first 18 seconds of the opening whistle off the stick of junior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.).

The period saw another Falcon goal in the 18th minute from freshman Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) with assists from freshmen Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) and Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.).

This was the final regulation goal from the Falcons.  The Sabres scored two unanswered in the third period to take the Falcons into overtime.  No goals were scored in the five minutes of overtime, so they got to the fun part.

In the three-person shootout, the Falcons sent out Pearson first and she scored.  Freshman Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) came up with two clutch saves in the shootout to give the Falcons the 2-0 edge in shootouts.  The second Falcon goal in the shootout was a second from Bauer.

McCardle recorded 36 saves in her 65 minutes on the ice giving the Falcons the shootout victory, but in the record book, it goes down as a tie.

The Falcons return to home ice as they take on Marian once again on Nov. 20th
