Foresters Get Best of Falcons in NCHA Quarterfinals

LAKE FOREST, Ill - The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team dropped to the Lake Forest Foresters in the NCHA Quarterfinals on Friday night, falling by a 3-1 score. Junior forward Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) registered the lone goal for Concordia in the loss.

Lake Forest opened the scoring on the power play, taking a 1-0 lead just under midway through the first period.

The score would be carried into the second period, but the Foresters doubled their advantage at the 10:07 mark of the frame.

Gibson brought the deficit back to within one before the end of the period, tallying her eighth goal of the season. Sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove, Minn.) initially threw the puck at the net before the rebound found Gibson in the goal crease.

The third period of play saw the Falcons battle to find the equalizer, but ultimately, the effort fell just short. Concordia attempted 13 shots in the period while also winning 16 of 23 faceoffs, but the tying goal was not found. Macy Gehrke tallied an empty net goal in the final minute of play to ensure the victory for Lake Forest.

Senior netminder Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) stopped 22 of 24 shots faced, posting a .923 save percentage.

The Falcons will be back in action against the Foresters on Saturday, February 17.
