Falcons Fly Against Marian

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team took on the Marian Sabres inside the Ozaukee Ice Center in their 2022 opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons scored in every period of play to post a 3-2 victory.

The first goal came in the 17th minute of play off of the stick of freshman Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) with an assist from fellow freshman Dayna Jones (Juneau, Wis.). The Falcons went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

In the 13th minute of the second period, the Falcons netted their second goal of the afternoon with freshman Olivia Kurtz (Plainfield, Ill.) finding the back of the net with a helper from another Plainfield native, senior Sarah Tretina.

The Falcons came out hot in the third period after their third goal in the first minute. Mackrell found freshman Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) for the goal.

The Sabres didn't go down without a fight. Marian scored two goals later in the third but came up short in the closing minutes of the period.

Mackrell led all players with two total points while junior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) recorded 25 saves in the 60 minutes between the posts.

The Falcons look to carry this momentum into their conference matchups with Lake Forest next weekend.
