Women’s Hockey Soared Again

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team posted another stellar season during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Falcons finished the season with a 13-13-1 record.  The Blue and White posted a winning NCHA record at 8-7-1.

The birds wasted no time rewriting the record book with an 11-0 victory over Lawrence in the season opener. The Falcons had a program-record 17 players score a point on Tuesday. The Falcons had 17 players score a point last season. The Blue and White also had a school record of 73 shots in the victory.

CUW handed Adrian its first NCHA loss since 2020 with a 2-1 victory to open the calendar in February.

The Falcons also thrived in the classroom. CUW had five student-athletes earn AHCA Krampade All-American Scholars. A senior forward from Billings, Montana, Emily Reimche is claiming the title for the third time. A junior goaltender from Castle Rock, Colorado, Annalina Van Hercke and senior defender Sarah Tretina, from Plainfield, Illinois, are making their second appearance on the AHCA All-American Scholar team. The goaltending duo of freshman Kami McCardle from Jackson, Wisconsin, and freshman Cheree Peters from Vernon, British Columbia, are making their first appearance.

Six Falcons also earned NCHA All-Academic honors. Emily Reimche, Sarah Tretina, Annalina Van Hercke were joined by junior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.), senior Lexy Sundal (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and senior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.).

Emily Reimche also earned NCHA All-Conference honors on the season. Reimche led the Falcons with 14 points in NCHA play with a team-high eight goals, while also adding six assists. She scored game-winning goals against Adrian and Finlandia in 2022. The Montana native led the nation with 372 faceoff victories.

A freshman from Newberry, Michigan, Katie Rahilly earned a spot on the NCHA All-Freshman Team.

Freshman Brooke Gibson (Aurora, Ont.) broke the school record with six game-winning goals in the season. She also led the Falcons with 13 goals on the season.

The Falcons were led by Emily Reimche and senior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) in scoring with 25 points on the year.

Defensively, Annalina Van Hercke led the flock with 488 saves.

Kami McCardle also claimed the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week title on Nov. 16.

The Falcons announced their team awards in May at the team banquet. Lexy Sundal was the Unsung Hero, Katie Rahilly was the Rookie of the Year, Sarah Tretina was the Defensive Player of the Year, Emily Reimche was the Offensive Player of the Year and was also voted the Most Valuable Player.

The Falcons hit the ice again in October.
