Falcons Bounce the Bennies in Overtime

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The CUW women's hockey team hit the road for the first time in the young season on Friday night and rallied back to defeat Saint Benedict 4-3 in overtime to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

Junior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.) lit the lamp six minutes into the game off an assist from senior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.).

Saint Benedict tied the game in the second period on a four-on-three power play.

The Bennies took the lead on the power play.

The Falcons scored on a deflection by senior Sarah Pearson off a shot from freshman Dayna Jones (Juneau, Wis.) with Baileigh Johnson adding the secondary assist..

Saint Benedict retook the lead in the first minute of the third period on another power play.

The Falcons leveled the game on the power play seven minutes into the third period off the stick of senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) and assists to Baileigh Johnson and senior Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.).

Freshman Brooke Gibson put the puck away in a scrum in front of the net with a power-play goal to end the evening.

The Bennies held a 35-23 in shots on Friday night. Baileigh Johnson and Emily Reimche led the flock with four shots each.

Junior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) collected 32 saves in the victory.

Emily Reimche led the Falcons with 11 faceoff victories.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday.
