Women's Hockey Splits the Slaats Cup Quarterfinals

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Falcons showed a lot of heart and grit on Saturday afternoon in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Quarterfinals. The Falcons needed a win to survive and that is what they did, tying the weekend series with a 4-2 victory. The season came to an end at 12-12-3 with a 0-2 loss in a mini game to determine who would advance to the semifinals.

Junior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) started the scoring four minutes into the contest after she deflected in a shot from freshman Ava Litkey (Kenosha, Wis.) and a secondary assist to sophomore Hailey Calliguri (Lonsdale, Minn.).

Seven minutes later, the Falcons connected on the power play when sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) tapped in a rebound off a shot from Amanda Bauer after Ella Tuccitto fed Bauer.

The Foresters closed the first period with a goal at the 17:29 mark of the first period.

The Black and Red tied the game in the second period on the power play.

The Falcons reclaimed the lead with 2:05 left in the second period on a two-on-one advantage where Amanda Bauer scored as she shoveled in the puck off a pass from freshman Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

Lake Forest continued to attack the CUW net in the third period with 12 shots but senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) once again came up big for the Falcons and did not allow a goal.

Makayla Spejcher iced the game with a goal from the defensive zone with a great bounce off the boards.

Concordia held a 38-29 advantage in shots in the victory to force the mini game.

Annalina Van Hercke posted 27 saves in the win.

The Falcons' defense came up with 14 blocks against the Foresters.

Amanda Bauer led the attack with nine shots.

The Foresters advantaged to the semifinal round with a 2-0 victory in the 20-minute mini game. Lake Forest held a 19-7 advantage in shots in the game.

Saturday marked the end of the incredible careers of Amanda Carney (Ottawa, Ontario, Natalia Etter (Boveresse, Switzerland) and Annalina Van Hercke.
