CEDARBURG, Wis. - A near capacity crowd came out to cheer on the Falcons and witness the grand opening of the Ozaukee Ice Center's new rink, but the Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team fell to Gustavus Adolphus College 5-3 on Friday night.

CUW (1-10-2, 1-6-1 MCHA) fell behind early after the Gusties scored three first period goals, and despite outshooting the visitors over the final two periods, could never cut the deficit to anything less than two.

Junior Greg Douglas (Plano, Texas), freshman Mario Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and sophomore Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) scored for the Falcons, who won't return to game action for another five weeks.

Gustavus (5-4-2, 3-3-0 MIAC) got out of the gates quickly, scoring three times in the first period, and twice in the opening 15 minutes.

But only 20 seconds after the Gusties' third tally, Douglas finished on a one-time wrist shot after taking a centering pass from brother Graylyn Douglas (Junior - Plano, Texas).

Zach May scored his second goal of the game for the Gusties within the first minute of the second period, allowing Gustavus to regain its three-goal advantage.

Later in the second, Dalesandro got the Falcons back within two after he smashed home a rebound off a shot from sophomore Dan Shilts (New Richmond, Wis.) to make the score 4-2.

With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, and with the score now at 5-2, Johnson added the Falcons' third tally with an unassisted, shorthanded goal to notch his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

CUW will now enter the holiday break and won't play again until January 13, when they host Finlandia University at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
