Men’s Hockey drops MCHA matchup against Lawrence
APPLETON, Wis. - Concordia
University Wisconsin's men's hockey team fell behind 3-0 after two
periods and eventually fell 4-2 to Lawrence University on Friday in
Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play at the Appleton Ice
Center.
Matt Hughes scored the game's
first two goals, as LU (1-0-0) won its season and conference
opener. The box score was nearly identical with both teams firing
35 shots on goal, but the Vikings held a 2-for-4 power play
advantage over the Falcons 1-for-6 power play efforts.
William Thoren pushed LU in front
3-0 after two periods of play before sophomore Shay Klitzke
(Annandale, Minn.) connected with sophomore Lukas Allen (Lakeville,
Minn.) to put CUW on the board less than four minutes into the
final period.
Just over four minutes later junior Graylyn Douglas (Plano, Texas) found the back of the net with a power play goal to cut the Falcons deficit to 3-2 with 12 minutes to play. Senior Mark Henke (Cando, N.D.) and Allen assisted on the goal.
Paul Zuke responded with a goal of his own to give the Vikings a t 4-2 cushion in the third period. Huck Saunders and Sam Johnson were credited with assists on the goal.
CUW goaltender Josh Lehr (freshman, Appleton, Wis.) (0-4-0) made 31 saves in the contest.
The Falcons return to the friendly confines of the Ozaukee Ice Center on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. to complete the home-and-home series against LU. Matt Menzl and Ashley Gorski will have the play-by-play radio call on CUWFalcons.com
