Men’s Hockey scores two unanswered goals to tie Lawrence

CEDARBURG, Wis. -Concordia University
Wisconsin found its offensive rhythm in the third period scoring
two unanswered goals en route to a 2-2 tie against Lawrence
University on Saturday night during Midwest College Hockey
Association play at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
The Falcons (0-5-1, 0-3-1 MCHA) fired 15 shots
on goal during the third period, scoring the game-tying tally with
less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. Despite being
outshot 59-33, CUW found ways to score with both teams at full
strength by making crisp passes and catching LU's goalie out of
position.
During the extra session neither team was able to find
the back of the net, as the shots on goal were slightly in the
Vikings favor, 5-3.
Sophomore Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) put the
Falcons on the board 3:33 into the third set of 20 minutes, with
Lukas Allen (Lakeville, Minn.) and sophomore Shay Klitzke
(Annandale, Minn.) assisting on the goal. The score was Johnson's
second of the season.
Less than eight minutes later sophomore Brandon Bayer
(Milwaukee, Wis.) scored his first goal of the season to tie the
contest at 2-2. Juniors Graylyn Douglas (Plano, Texas) and Greg
Douglas (Plano, Texas) assisted on the tally.
CUW goalie Josh Lehr (freshman, Appleton, Wis.)
recorded 57 saves in the contest and rejected a combined 43 shots
on goal during the second and third periods.
After a scoreless opening period, Sam Johnson scored
an unassisted goal, his first goal of the season, to give LU a 1-0
lead 14:54 into the second period.
Brad Scurfield also scored his first goal of the
season when Phil Bushbacher set him up 1:59 into the third period
to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage.
CUW returns to the ice for a home-and-home
series against Lake Forest College beginning on Friday, Nov. 11 at
7 p.m. at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse in Lake Forest, Ill. On
Saturday, Nov. 12 the Falcons will host the Foresters in Milwaukee,
Wis., at 2:30 p.m. at the Bradley Center.
The men's game on Saturday is the second part of a
doubleheader with the Falcons women's hockey program who is playing
Finlandia University at 12 p.m. Tickets are $12 and are good for
the doubleheader and for the 7 p.m. Milwaukee Admirals
game.
