After strong start, Men’s Hockey falls to Adrian

Box Score: CUW 4, AC 9

CEDARBURG, Wis. - Despite being tied at both the first and second intermissions, the Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team came up short against Adrian College on Friday night, losing 9-4 at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The final score ended up being very misleading in this one, as the Falcons and Bulldogs were equally matched through two periods, before Adrian pulled away with five goals in the third.

Freshman Morgan Sanchez (Corona, Calif.) had a goal and an assist, and sophomore Shay Klitzke (Annandale, Minn.) scored to put CUW (1-8-2, 1-5-1 MCHA) up 4-3 late in the second period, but Adrian took over in the final frame.

The Bulldogs (7-3-0, 6-1-0 MCHA) got off to a quick 2-0 lead behind two early goals from Zach Wilson.

But less than 30 seconds after Wilson's second tally, freshman Mario Dalesandro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) put the Falcons on the board, finishing off of a centering pass from Sanchez.

Freshman Ryan Lehr (Sioux Falls, S.D.) then tied the score at 2-2 with just over three minutes left in the first period, redirecting a point shot from sophomore Bradley Lukasz (East Grand Forks, Minn.), which beat Bulldog goaltender Scott Shackell.

After Adrian scored early in the second period to grab a 3-2 advantage, Sanchez and Klitzke scored twice in a matter of 70 seconds, putting the Falcons ahead 4-3.

But it was all Adrian from there, as the Bulldogs scored six unanswered goals to run away with the win.

CUW won't have to wait long to get another shot at ninth-ranked Adrian, as the two teams meet again at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Saturday's game will feature live play-by-play commentary, which can be found here.
