Falcons suffer defeat against defending D-III champs

Box Score: SNC 8, CUW 0

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team saw their record fall to 0-2 after a crushing 8-0 defeat from reigning Division-III national champion St. Norbert College on Tuesday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

Shots on goal heavily favored the Green Knights (1-0), who put 53 shots on target to only 16 for the Falcons.

CUW did produce a handful of chances throughout the game, including a penalty shot in the second period from freshman Tanner Tryggestad (Amery, Wis.). The Falcons couldn't make the most of their opportunities, however, and the top-ranked team in the country took advantage.

Senior forward Seth Soley had a hat trick for St. Norbert, during a game in which 13 different Green Knights tallied points.

It was a busy night for the Falcon goalies; freshman Zachary Mielen (Allen Park, Mich.) registered 23 saves on 29 shots in a period and a half of work, before giving way to junior Billy Sias (Bloomington, Minn.), who stopped 22-of-24.

The penalty kill unit was a bright spot for the Falcons, who killed off all four of the St. Norbert power play attempts.

The Falcons have two days of practice before hosting MSOE on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
