Women's Basketball cruises past Dominican on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin flexed its muscle in the second half on Saturday en route to a dominating 90-52 victory over Dominican University inside the R. John Buuck Field House on Senior Day. The Falcons outscored the Stars 55-31 in the final 20 minutes of play.

There were two scoring ties and a lead change in the first four minutes of the game before the Falcons took control. They went on a 23-3 scoring run in the first half and built their lead to as many as 38 points in the final seconds of the victory.

CUW's 90 points are tied for the third highest output in head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones' 10 years at the helm. Its 55 points in the second half are the most points recorded in a half this season. It was a team effort as all 14 players that dressed saw at least four minutes of action.

The Falcons finished with a 54-26 advantage in points in the paint, 32-5 difference in bench production, 36-14 lead in points off turnovers and outrebounded the Stars 43-19.

Sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) led the Falcons with 17 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high four steals. Although listed as a forward, she showed her ability to work in the open court with a pair of steals that she took coast-to-coast for fast break layups, including one that was converted for a three-point play.

Senior Anna Butler (Kewaskum, Wis.) had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) had 12 points and four steals. Senior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) tallied six points and stole two passes.

Freshman Tori Riechers (Cedarburg, Wis.) finished with 10 points and six rebounds off the bench. In all, six of the nine reserves found the scoring column.

Haley Tyler led the Stars (0-22, 0-17 NACC) with 20 points, including 12-of-16 at the free throw line. Allie Tapanes and Alyssa Hernandez each scored 11 points. Hernandez pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.

The Falcons shot 52.9 percent (37-of-70) from the field, which was their fourth game above 50 percent this season. They also had season-highs in field goals made (37), free throw percentage (88.2, 15-of-17), assists (24) and steals (14).

CUW returns to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against MSOE in a NACC contest. The Falcons will wear pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness.
