Women's Basketball soars past Benedictine for seventh straight win

LISLE, Ill. – Senior Camille Parsons tied a career high with 19 points as she helped guide the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Basketball team to a convincing 83-59 victory over Benedictine University Saturday night at the Rice Center. The win was the seventh straight for the Falcons, as they continue their best start in the Stacey Brunner-Jones era.

Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) tied her career mark despite only taking six field goal attempts in the game. The senior guard was 4-for-6 from the field, all four of those makes coming from 3-point range, where she connected on 4-of-5 attempts. The four 3-point field goals were the most in a game for Parsons, who also shot 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

"This was a good road win for us," said Brunner-Jones. "We had a terrific inside-out game working tonight and I was very proud of the way we handled their press and zone defense. I'd also like to thank the fans who made the trip and helped cheer us on."

The Falcons built a 47-26 lead after 20 minutes of play thanks in large part to an impressive 61.3 (19-for-31) shooting percentage. Benedictine actually connected on 55 percent (11-for-20) of its first-half attempts, but turnovers proved to be a big difference, with CUW winning that battle 14-7 over the first 20 minutes. Senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.), sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Tori Riechers (Cedarburg, Wis.) all had nine points in the opening half for the Falcons.

Benedictine wouldn't offer much of a threat in the second half, as the Falcons lead never dipped below 14 points. CUW held a game-high 29-point lead late in the second half, helping them roll to the 83-59 conference victory. The host Eagles never held a lead in the contest.

Parsons was one of four Falcons to finish in double-figures as Luethe (18), Riechers (17) and Coenen (11) added to the balanced attack. Sophomore Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) tied a career high with nine points off the bench, the third consecutive game she reached that mark. Riechers also pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds, finishing with her first career double-double. Her 17 points tied a career-best, while her 10 rebounds were the most in her young career. CUW held a 35-28 edge in rebounds in the game.

Parsons also tied for a game-high seven assists, which tied a career high. Senior Anna Butler (Kewaskum, Wis.) dished out seven assists as CUW finished with 19 in the game compared to just 14 turnovers. Benedictine on the other hand totaled 12 assists and turned the ball over 20 times.

Vincenza Ranallo and Briana Hamilton each finished with 10 points in leading Benedictine. Alanna Ferry added seven points and seven assists for the Eagles, who dropped to 2-2 in NACC play.

The Falcons will look to continue their impressive start to the 2013-14 season on Thursday when they visit Lakeland College for a NACC matchup. Tip-off between the Falcons and Muskies is set for 7 p.m. and live coverage links will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
