Women's Basketball winning streak ends at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – Concordia University Wisconsin struggled to get in a rhythm offensively, which resulted in a 71-56 defeat at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Falcons.

CUW shot 35.0 percent for the game on 21-of-60 from the field and was getting beat in the paint on the defensive end of the court nearly all game. WLC finished with a commanding 48-32 advantage in points in the paint and a 41-29 rebounding edge.

The Warriors quickly built a double-digit lead just six minutes and 35 seconds into the game and didn't let up as they led by 20 points five minutes later. Their advantage swelled to a game-best 24 points with 5:51 to play before halftime.

CUW played better in the second half and cut the deficit to 11 points after a 15-7 scoring run with just under six minutes to play. The loss ended the Falcons reign as the last undefeated team in the league.

Freshman Tori Riechers (Cedarburg, Wis.) led CUW with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) had 12 points and five rebounds, while senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) recorded 11 points and eight rebounds. The trio finished 16-of-35 from the floor, while four others combined for 5-of-25 shooting.

WLC (6-3, 4-1 NACC) was paced by Kristen Schulz's impressive performance that featured 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, eight rebounds and seven blocks. Taylor Bahr scored 12 points off the bench and Rachel Hoft and Melanie Laete added 10 points each.

The Warriors shot 55.4 percent (31-of-56) and held a 15-5 lead in bench scoring.

CUW will take time off for the Christmas holiday and before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Rockford University at 4:15 p.m. The game is the second part of a doubleheader with the men's program.
