Women's Basketball controls Dominican in lopsided road victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin had four players score in double-figures as it downed Dominican University, 87-43, on Wednesday night inside Igini Sports Forum. The Falcons victory keeps them atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings by a game-and-a-half.

The 44-point victory was the fourth largest in the 10 years of the Stacey Brunner-Jones tenure and the third largest in the NACC era for the Falcons. They went full throttle after the tipoff with a 20-5 scoring run over the first eight minutes and six seconds of the game.

CUW led 37-14 at halftime after scoring 20 points in the paint and getting 10 points from its bench. The lead swelled to 31 points just over two minutes into the second half, which allowed all13 players that dressed numerous minutes of playing time.

Senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) led all players with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while sophomore Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) tallied 12 points and had a career-high four steals.

Senior Anna Butler (Kewaskum, Wis.) also stole a career-high-tying four passes. Senior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) added 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Laura Kolander (Corcoran, Minn.) added a career-high nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.

Several freshmen had career momentums to remember as Samantha Blissett (Springfield, Ill.) dished out a pair of assists. Taylor DeLong (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored her first career points on a pair of free throws and also rejected a shot. Samantha Erdman (Oak Creek, Wis.) had a career-best five points, including a triple, and a steal. Jessica House (Oneida, Wis.) also swatted a DU field goal attempt.

Allie Tapanes and Alyssa Hernandez led the Stars (0-15, 0-10 NACC) with 14 points apiece.

The Falcons forced the Stars into 30 turnovers and converted those errors into 31 points. It was the 16th time CUW has forced its opponents into 30 or more turnovers in the past 10 years. They also held a 48-24 advantage in points in the paint and a 36-2 difference in bench production.

CUW returns to the hardwood on Saturday for a 4:15 p.m. NACC matchup with Rockford University inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
