Women's Basketball controls MSOE in home NACC victory

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin blew the game wide open on Wednesday with an 18-5 scoring run in the opening half to take control of MSOE in an 84-60 victory during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

The Falcons shot a blistering 62.1 percent (18-of-29) from the floor in the first half and finished with a season-high-tying 50 points in the paint. They also held a 25-13 advantage in points off turnovers and the bench outscored MSOE's reserves 31-10.

CUW also stole a season-high 14 passes for the second-consecutive game and was able to play all 14 players that dressed. The Falcons also shot 80.6 percent (25-of-31) at the free throw line and finished 50.9 percent (29-of-57) for the game. It was the third time in the past four games they have shot 50 percent or better.

Seniors Anna Butler (Kewaskum, Wis.) and Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) each had a team-high 14 points. Butler also grabbed seven rebounds and stole a career-high six passes. Sophomore Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) ended with 13 points, career-high six rebounds and four assists.

Freshman Jessica House (Oneida, Wis.) chipped in a career-high-tying 11 points off the bench, while sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) had six points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Holly Denfeld led all players with 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds. Shannon Larson added 14 points and four rebounds, while Margaret Pugh scored seven points for the Raiders (12-11, 10-8 NACC).

CUW led by single digits for seven minutes in the opening half before pushing its lead to double-digits. An 18-5 scoring run over a five minute and 24 second span pushed their advantage to a first-half-best 22 points.

The Falcons led 52-31 at the break after scoring 30 points in the paint. Their 52 points in the opening half was the second highest output in a half this season.

CUW advanced its lead to a game-high 32 points after junior Lisa Donaldson (Greenfield, Wis.) made the second of two free throws with 4:16 to play in the game.

The Falcons (20-3, 16-2 NACC) return to action on Saturday with a 7 p.m. road NACC contest at Alverno College.
