Women's Basketball stays unbeaten with convincing win at Lakeland

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had four players score in double-figures and led from the start on Thursday evening en route to a 73-51 road victory at Lakeland College inside Woltzen Gymnasium to stay unbeaten this season.

The Falcons led by as many as 24 points in the second half, committed just nine turnovers while forcing 19 and had a positive 18-8 points off turnover differential. They also pulled down 18 offensive rebounds and converted those chances into 15 points.

After leading by single digits for just over nine minutes in the opening half, they went on an 18-6 scoring run over a seven minute and 36 second span to take control of the contest with a 32-20 lead. The advantage dipped to single digits for just over a minute in the second half before increasing to over 20 points.

"Our transition game was great tonight and we rebounded the basketball very well," head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones said. "Camille played probably the best game of her career with eight assists and no turnovers. I am even happier with how the team stayed focused and on task during a difficult finals week."

A sign of improvement for CUW (8-0, 5-0 NACC) was its free throw shooting, as it finished 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) – the best performance at the charity stripe this season.

Senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) led all scorers with 18 points, to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Senior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) tallied 13 points and dished out a career-high eight assists.

Sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) had 12 points, nine rebounds and a career-best three steals. Freshman Tori Riechers (Cedarburg, Wis.) had 14 points and sophomore Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) scored seven points off the bench. Sophomore McKayla Gehrls (Caledonia, Mich.) finished with two points and a career-high four rebounds in five minutes of play off the bench.

The Muskies (3-4, 2-2 NACC) failed to get a player into double-figures, as Leah Eisner was the high scorer with nine points. Vashia Gordon had eight points and five rebounds, while Liz Morrison recorded six points and six rebounds in a reserve role.

The Falcons led by just two points with 10:55 to play in the first half before five different players turned it into a 12-point lead with just over three minutes before halftime. They would take a 37-26 lead into the locker room behind Luethe's 10 points.

Following an Eisner triple and two free throws by Taylor Jandrin the CUW lead was at eight points with 16:25 to play in the game. The Falcons answered with six-consecutive free throws to push the advantage back to 14 points.

The lead slowly increased for numerous minutes until a Riechers layup, which was two of her 10 second half points, gave CUW a game-high 24-point advantage with three minutes and 17 seconds to play.

CUW returns to action on Monday with a crucial NACC matchup against Alverno College at 7 p.m. inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
