Women's Basketball cruises by Concordia Chicago

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin quickly took control on Wednesday evening and never looked back as it defeated Concordia University Chicago, 71-36, during a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

CUW built a sizable 20-plus lead with seven minutes to play in the first half and increased its lead to as many as 37 points in the second half on two occasions. All 14 Falcons that dressed saw action in the lopsided victory.

The Falcons finished with a 61-35 rebounding advantage, including 24 offensive rebounds. They also stole nine passes and held a 48-18 lead in points in the paint and 25-13 difference in bench production.

CUW's 61 rebounds are the most by a team in head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones' 10 years at the helm.

Senior Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) led all players with 14 points and 10 rebounds, which is her first double-double of the season and 13th of her career. Freshman Tori Riechers (Cedarburg, Wis.) added 12 points, while sophomore Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) scored 11 points.

Sophomore Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior Ann Butler (Kewaskum, Wis.) ended with six points, six rebounds, game-high five assists and two steals.

Kassy Koehler and Lauren Orr led CUC (0-12, 0-9 NACC) with seven points each. Angelik Young, Morgan Jahnke and Divinity Stephens had six points apiece.

The Falcons turned a six-point advantage, 13-7, after six minutes elapsed in the opening half into a 25-point lead with 4:47 remaining before the intermission, putting the game out of reach for the Cougars. CUW's lead in the second half hovered between 24 and 37 points, as the reserves played the majority of the minutes.

Freshman Jessica House (Oneida, Wis.) highlighted the bench production with a career-high eight points, six rebounds and two steals in 19 minutes of action. Sophomore Laura Kolander (Corcoran, Minn.) hauled in a career-best six rebounds during her 16 minutes of play.

CUW (11-1, 8-1 NACC) returns to action on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. when it hosts Benedictine University inside the R. John Buuck Field House during NACC play. The game is the second part of a doubleheader with the men's program.
