#CUWStatsInfo: Parsons clutch down the stretch

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin is off to its best start in the Stacey Brunner-Jones' era, thanks in large part to Camille Parsons and her calmness at the free throw line in the heat of the moment.

The Falcons five games to start the 2013-14 campaign have been close, winning by an average of 5.1 points in per contest. While some of the victories have not been pretty, every coach in the country hopes their senior captain comes through with the game undecided and Parsons has been that such player.

During the last five minutes, the senior guard has been clutch (defined as the last five minutes of the game with the score within five points) at the free throw line. She has drained 10-of-11 attempts (90.1 percent) and has more makes than attempts by any other player on the team.

What is more impressive is Parsons having made both free throw attempts in the final nine seconds of three games this season. Below is an in-depth look at her silky-smooth stroke at the charity stripe:

Nov. 20 at Carroll (W, 62-57)
With nine seconds to play and the Falcons leading by just a field goal, Carroll sent Parsons to the line for two free throws that she calmly knocked down. While the final two free throws were the most critical, Parsons made 7-of-12 in the game, which were both career highs.

Nov. 26 vs. UW-La Crosse (W, 67-63)
Pefect in the final 4:20 of the home opener against the Eagles is what Parsons was, after making 5-of-5 attempts. After being fouled on a 3-point attempt she swished all three of those free throws before doing what she does best with two seconds to play. CUW was at one point in the game down 17 points in the first half before making an improbable comeback that was sealed by Parsons two free throw makes with two ticks left on the clock.

Nov. 30 vs. Aurora (W, 58-55)
Aurora twice had a chance to steal the win from the Falcons in the final 11 seconds, but Parsons again went to the line with the game in flux. After the Spartans missed a wide-open layup the Urbana, Ill., native was fouled and went to the other end of the court to seal another victory. With CUW leading 56-55 with nine seconds to play, she made two free throws to extend the lead before the final horn sounded.

During the past three seasons, the deadly touch of Parsons has seen 38-of-48 free throw attempts tickle the twine in the last five minutes of games. It would be wise of opponents who need to foul with the game on the line to deny the ball from the Falcons captain because Parsons is probably going to put a check in the win column for CUW.
