#2014CIT Blog: Coenen, Luethe looking to lead CUW to CIT title

The Concordia Invitational Tournament is now only one day away. Are you excited? I know we are. On Tuesday, we took a look at two players from the Falcon Men's Basketball squad to keep an eye during this year's tournament. In today's #2014CIT blog, we will look at two key members of the Falcon Women's Basketball team (15-1) to make note of over the next few days.

Katie Luethe, Forward, Senior, Oshkosh, Wis.:
One of the most bone-chilling sports quotes in recent memory came from the 2000 film "Remember the Titans" when defensive end Julius Campbell told linebacker Gerry Bertier, that "attitude reflects leadership". This powerful quote was spoken at a critical time in the film, when two players with two different ideologies on the leadership came together to push their differences aside to formulate a style that was best fit for the team overall, not for the betterment of one individual.

The Women's Basketball team has displayed a unified presence all season long, largely in part of the tremendous leadership of senior forward Katie Luethe. She has injected an infectious attitude into the squad both on and off the court, culminating in a tremendous start to the season. The forward has started in all 16 games for the Falcons, while putting up a very impressive stat line, averaging 15.2 points per game to go along with 7.6 rebounds per game, with 3.8 of those rebounds coming on the offensive end. The tenacity by Luethe on the offensive end has invigorated the scoring by the Falcons, as they average an impressive 71.6 points per contest this season. The Falcon roster has instilled their utmost confidence in her ability to take high-percentage shots, providing her with nearly 15 field goal attempts per game.

Megan Coenen, Forward, Sophomore, Green Bay, Wis.:
As the infamous saying goes, "age ain't nothin' but a number", and this surely applies to sophomore forward Megan Coenen. In only her second season, she has managed to evolve into one of the Falcons key pieces on the floor, establishing a daunting inside presence along with her fellow teammate Katie Luethe. Coenen has been nothing short of sensational down low on both ends of the floor this season.

Known as a very intelligent player, Coenen is well aware of her strengths. One of these strengths is identifying high-percentage field goal attempts, especially near the rim. Coenen leads the team with a 53.2 field goal percent. For the year, she is averaging 12.6 points per game to go along with 6.9 rebounds per game. Look for Coenen to continue her dominance inside the paint, while maintaining her keen sense to scope out the highest percentage shot available on the floor.
