Falcons Cage Cougars in Regular Season Finale

RIVER FOREST, Ill - The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team picked up its ninth conference win of the season on Saturday, topping the Concordia Chicago Cougars by a 62-55 score. The win represented the Falcons' second win of the season over the Cougars, having won the two squads' first matchup in January.

The Falcons dominated the early going of the game, taking the contest's first 11 points. Freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) registered four points in the stretch as part of her eight total points in the game. Concordia Chicago cut into the lead by the end of the quarter, as the scoreboard held a 16-10 reading after ten minutes.

Junior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) and sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) bumped the lead up to ten early in the second quarter, and Booth would go on to record five points in a frame that saw both teams record thirteen points apiece.

The Cougars brought the score to even at 31 points 4:18 into the second half, but  Diedre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) put the Falcons right back in front in response. Concordia Chicago once again squared the game off of a three-pointer, but junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillet, Wis.) found a score off of a jumper on the Falcons' ensuing possession.

After registering the first five points of the fourth quarter, the Cougars took their first lead of the game with 8:01 remaining to play. Booth brought the game back to a tie with a triple just minutes later, leaving a 45-45 score.

The Cougars jumped back in front on their following possession, but freshman Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) buried two consecutive three-pointers to give the Falcons the lead once again. While Concordia Chicago drew within two points in the minutes that followed, the lead would not be surrendered, and the Falcons would go on to win, 62-55.

The Falcons will be back in action in the NACC Tournament, taking on the 14-11 Edgewood Eagles in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 21. Concordia took the teams' first meeting of the season in January by a 56-45 score.
