Falcon weekend preview: Baseball, Softball, Women's Tennis on spring trips

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin will have three teams in action this weekend with all three headed south for their 2013 spring trips. The CUW Baseball and Softball teams are competing in Florida, while the Women's Tennis team will begin its spring trip schedule Sunday in South Carolina.

The CUW Baseball team began its stretch in Florida Wednesday by dropping a 5-4 contest against the University of Massachusetts Boston. The Falcons were unable to rebound against Grinnell College yesterday, losing 9-4.

Over the weekend the Falcons will play four games over three days, highlighted by a double header against St. Olaf College beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT today. CUW will then battle Elmhurst College tomorrow before taking Trinity (Conn.) College Sunday. Trinity is receiving votes in the latest D3baseball.com poll.

The CUW Softball team begins its spring trip with six games over the weekend. In their first six games in Florida, the Falcons will face four teams who ended the 2012 campaign regionally ranked. CUW will battle Western Connecticut State in its first game today at 1:00 p.m. follwed by a matchup against No. 6 Eastern Connecticut State at 3:00 p.m.

The Falcons are scheduled to face Grove City College and UW-Whitewater Saturday morning before playing Kalamazoo College and Elmhurst College Sunday. Elmhurst and UW-Whitewater finished 2012 ranked 6th and 7th in the Great Lakes regional, respectively.

Also in action this weekend will be the CUW Women's Tennis team as they begin play in Hilton Head, S.C. Sunday. The Falcons will play against Carroll University, beginning their five-match trip. CUW will play one dual match each day from Sunday through Thursday.
