Baseball downed by Trinity in slugfest

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team had its best offensive game of its Florida trip thus far Sunday against Trinity College, but it was unfortunately not enough as it fell in a slugfest, 17-7.

The Falcons built a 5-1 lead early in the contest Sunday but an eight-run inning by the Bantams put them up 9-5 and Trinity would continue its strong offensive attack leaving with the 17-7 victory.

Despite the loss several Falcon hitters had strong days at the plate, including senior Daniel Mueller (West Bend, Wis.) who continued his strong play to start the 2013 season. Mueller roped three hits and drove in two runs, including smacking a two-RBI double. CUW totaled 12hits as junior Jay Kuczynski (Cedarburg, Wis.), sophomore Joel Sharon (Glendale, Wis.) and freshman Taylor Devenport (Saukville, Wis.) all added two hits.

Junior pitcher Austin Baglow (Walled Lake, Mich.) was faced with the tough task of going against the Bantams lineup and took the loss for CUW. Trinity has scored 10 or more runs in seven of their first 15 games this season.

The Falcons (0-5) will return to action tomorrow when they finish a contest against St. Olaf College. CUW and the Oles were in the fourth inning of the second game of their doubleheader Friday before rain suspended play. St. Olaf held a 7-3 lead at the time play was suspended.
