Baseball falls to St. Norbert, second game postponed by fog

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball team had to battle both foggy playing conditions and the St. Norbert College baseball team on Thursday as it fell to the Green Knights 4-2 in a non-conference battle at Kapco Park. The second game was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

In the opener the Falcons built a 2-0 lead by manufacturing a run in both the first and third innings. Each inning featured a leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single off the bat of junior Beau Burgert (Oshkosh, Wis.) as he drove in senior Daniel Mueller (West Bend, Wis.) in the first and junior Taylor Buuck (Hillsborow, Ore.) in the third. Burgert's two singles were the only two hits of the game for CUW.

The CUW lead held until the top of the fourth inning when St. Norbert used four straight hits, all with two outs, to take a 3-2 lead. Travis Mason had an RBI double in the inning, while Nick Pierre and Alex Larsen each drove in runs with singles. The Green Knights would go on to add a run in the fourth as they took the opener 4-2.

Troy Rottier earned the win for SNC (15-6) in his first appearance on the mound this season as he went the distance, allowing two runs and striking out a pair. Sophomore Tyler Adams (Jackson, Wis.) took the loss for CUW, pitching four innings and giving up three earned, while striking out five. Junior Andrew Mueller (Horicon, Wis.) pitched the final three innings, giving up just two hits.

The second game was called due to the unplayable field conditions after an hour delay between the two contests. At this time no makeup date has been set for a rescheduled game.

CUW (10-14) will return to conference play Saturday when they host Aurora University in a Northern Athletics Conference twinbill. The games will be the 16th and 17th straight games at Kapco Park for the Falcons and are set to begin at 12 p.m.
