CUW Secures First Overall at St. Norbert Invitational

DE PERE, Wis. – The women's track and field team continued their successful outdoor season by securing first place at the St. Norbert Invitational with a season-high 179 points, edging out UW-Stevens Point, who finished their day with 175 points. 

The Falcons scored 23 points in the 5000-meter run. Sophomore Ainara Sainz de Rosas (Madrid, Spain) took second with a time of 19:49.19, while freshman Bailee Schlender (Brillion, Wis.) claimed six points in third at 21:19.56. 

Meanwhile, senior MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) and freshman Sydney Lechisin (Turtle Lake, Wis.) combined for nine points with a fourth and fifth place finish.  

Points continued to roll in for CUW as junior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.25. A few spots down was freshman Lorin Laney (Columbus, Ohio) in sixth, crossing the finish line at 18.06 for three team points. 

In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) led the flock at 1:10.79 for second overall. Meanwhile, freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) finished in fourth, recording a time of 1:13.84.

CUW also saw top finishes in the 100-meter dash as senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) and Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) with times of 12.33 and 12.53, respectively, for a combined 14 points as they finished second and third. 

Zahorik also succeeded in the 200-meter, taking third with a time of 25.44 seconds. Moore also had a top-10 finish in the 200-meter, crossing the line at a time of 26.25 seconds. Together, the duo combined for nine points in that event alone. 

As a squad, Concordia Wisconsin locked up second place in the 4x100-meter relay at 49.72 seconds. 

CUW also experienced success in the 4x400-meter relay, accumulating a time of 4:24.94 for second place. 

Another first-place finish came in the 3000-meter steeplechase as senior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) claimed gold by a wide margin with a time of 12:11.49 while second place crossed the finish line 45 seconds later. 

Furthermore, four Falcons finished in the top-eight in the 1500-meter as sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) took first with a 5:00.53 for 10 points. In second was freshman Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.), crossing the finish line at 5:02.06. In sixth and eighth were sophomore Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) and freshman Abigail Lange (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.). 

The 800-meter run saw sophomore Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) take third with a time of 2:30.94, while freshman Kylee Camble (Cudahy, Wis.) finished fifth with a time of 2:35.79 for six and four points.

In the javelin, senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) recorded a mark of 30.30 meters for sixth overall and three points. 

Meanwhile, in the field events, sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) took third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.21 meters. 

Emma Eilertson led the Blue and White in the high jump, leaping a height of 1.55 meters for second place, while senior Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.), took sixth at a height of 1.40 meters. In eighth was freshman Nina Alft (Kimberly, Wis.) recorded a mark of 1.25 meters for a point. 

Maya Hielscher carried her success from the track into the long jump, as she took first, leaping a distance of 5.39 meters. More points poured in the event as Sabrina Moore had a mark of 5.21 meters for fourth overall.  

The jumps continued to show their prowess as sophomore Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) locked up first with a jump of 10.44 meters while sophomore Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) leaped a distance of 9.70 for sixth while Lorin Laney took seventh.  

Following their successful weekend, CUW will look to carry this momentum into next week's NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
