No. 15 Softball Squishes Lakeland

MEQUON, Wis. – The 15th-ranked Concordia Wisconsin softball team went fishing on Friday evening and hooked the Muskies with a 12-0, 6-0 sweep. The victories extend the winning streak to 19 games and elevate the flock to 28-3 and 17-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The victories also secure a spot in the NACC Tournament for the Falcons.

Freshman Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) started the scoring in the second inning on a single to shortstop that scored senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.).

The Falcons reeled the fish in with six runs in the third inning.

Sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) started the attack with a single to center field that plated junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.).

Gabbi Gaziano kept the good times rolling with a single up the middle of the infield that scored senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

Sophomore Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) crushed the ball over the fence in left-center field to send in Gabbi Gaziano and Megan Bloyer.

In the fourth inning, Madi Wheat scored on an error.

The Muskies never learned their lesson and pitched to Jasmine Freeze again in the fourth inning and she cleared the bases with a grand slam to have a party at home plate with Gabbi Gaziano, senior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) and sophomore KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.)

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) had her personal Friday fish fry in the circle in her 17th victory of the year with six strikeouts. She had her no-hitter performance broken up in the fifth inning and finished with one strikeout.

Freshman Jaylin Gremminger (Oakfield, Wis.) made her collegiate debut on Friday and recorded two outs against two batters.

Madi Wheat, Claudia Utz, Gabbi Gaziano and Jasmine Freeze all had two hits in the first game on Friday.

Gabbi Gaziano and Rylie DuVal both had a stolen base in the 12-0 victory.

Claudia Utz threw the first punch in game two with a single to center field in the first inning to score senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) from second base.

A sacrifice fly in the second inning from sophomore Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) allowed Gabbi Gaziano to scoot across home plate.

Sydney Erdmann then singled up the middle to send Jasmine Freeze and Ashley Zappa home.

In the third inning, Adrianna Martinez was walked with the bases loaded to allow freshman Julia Moker to cruise home.

The scoring ended in the third inning when Sydney Erdmann smacked a single to left field to score Ashley Zappa.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) gutted the fish with only three hits against and five strikeouts.

Sydney Erdmann, Julia Moker and Ashley Zappa all stole a base in game two.

Sydney Erdmann earned three hits in the second game.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to play on Sunday at Benedictine.
