No. 18 Softball Rumbles Past Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill. – The 18th-ranked Falcons had their first road games of the season on Monday afternoon at Rockford. Concordia improved to 18-3 on the season and remained atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings at 7-0 with a 10-2, 6-4 sweep of the Regents.

Senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) started the attack on Monday with a triple into the gap in right-center field. Junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) then scored Erdmann.

A double into the gap in left-center field from senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) plated Madi Wheat and sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

Senior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) scored on an error off the bat of Sydney Erdmann in the second inning.

Sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) crushed the ball over the fence in the second inning to also score Erdmann.

Sydney Erdmann struck again in the fourth inning with a single to center field that scored senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) from second base.

The Regents got a run back in the fifth inning on an error.

The birds added three more runs in the seventh inning.

Senior Katelyn Albrecht (Oconto Falls, Wis.) started the spree with a single to left field that landed Claudia Utz at home.

A sacrifice fly from Ashley Zappa plated Megan Bloyer.

Junior Caitlin Huberty (Coleman, Wis.) closed the Concordia scoring with a single to center field to score Katelyn Albrecht for her first collegiate RBI.  

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) finished with 10 strikeouts in the victory.

Sydney Erdmann secured a game-high three hits in game one.

Gabbi Gaziano stole a base for the birds in game one.

Defense was the name of the game in the first three innings of game two with neither team allowing a run.

Sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) ended the drought in the fourth inning with a single through the left side of the infield that scored Madi Wheat.

The Regents took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs on a pair of doubles.

The Falcons reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs of their own in the fifth inning.

A single through the right side of the infield with the bases loaded allowed Ashley Zappa to cross home plate off the bat of Madi Wheat.

A sacrifice fly from Jess Pozezinski gave CUW the lead when Gabbi Gaziano scored.

Another double in the fifth inning allowed a pair of unearned runs to score and give the Regents back the lead.

Madi Wheat gave the Falcons back the lead in the sixth inning when a single to left field scored Ashley Zappa and freshman Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.).

A ground-rule double from Jess Pozezinski closed the scoring on Monday to also Sydney Erdmann to hop on home plate.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) posted a strikeout in the start. Gina Followell came in for relief and picked up her 12th victory of the season with two strikeouts.

Madi Wheat racked up three hits in the victory and also stole a base.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday at Dominican.
