No. 14 Softball Finishes NACC Play Undefeated

MEQUON, Wis. – The 14th-ranked Falcons finished the regular season on Sunday afternoon against Alverno. CUW finished Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play unbeaten at 23-0 and at 34-3 overall. The Falcons swept Sunday play against Alverno with 4-1 and 13-0 victories.

The Falcons started the scoring in the second inning when sophomore Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) when she singled up the middle to score senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.).

Sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) smashed the ball out of the park with a home run to left-center field to also plate senior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.).

In the sixth inning, senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) doubled into the gap in right-center field to score junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.).

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) struck out 11 batters in her 100th career appearance.

Sydney Erdmann and Jasmine Freeze both stole a base in game one.

The Falcons blew the game open early in game two.

Claudia Utz started the attack with a double off the fence in center field in the first inning to score Sydney Erdmann and Madi Wheat.

Sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) then singled through the left side of the infield to score Jess Pozezinski.

Jasmine Freeze then plated Claudia Utz.

The Falcons scored seven runs in the second inning.

Jess Pozezinski got the ball rolling with a single down the left-field line to score Madi Wheat and Ashley Zappa.

Claudia Utz then smacked a triple to left field to plate Pozezinski.

Megan Bloyer singled to left field to send Claudia Utz home.

Jasmine Freeze threw the ball to center field on a double that scored freshman Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.).

Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) joined the triple party with a shot to center field to score sophomore KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.). Gaziano later scored on a wild pitch.

In the third inning, Sydney Erdmann doubled down the left-field line to score Ashley Zappa.

The scoring ended with a single to right-center field from Claudia Utz to plate Sydney Erdmann.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) bounced Alverno with only two hits against and nine strikeouts.

Madi Wheat stole a base.

Claudia Utz and Ashley Zappa both had three hits.

The Falcons will compete in the NACC Tournament on Thursday night.
