Softball Opens the 2023 Season

MEQUON, Wis. – Excitement is in the air for the 2023 season for the Concordia Wisconsin Softball program. The Falcons are coming off their best season in program history, where the Falcons soared to the NCAA Division III Region Finals.

Last year, the Falcons broke the program record for wins in a season at 36-6.

The Falcons won the NACC Regular Season title at 20-3 and the NACC Tournament title with victories over Benedictine at MSOE.

The Blue and White return three All-NACC selections from last year in senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.), sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Wis.) and senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.). Followell was voted as the NACC Pitcher of the Year, Pozezinski was the NACC Freshman of the Year and Steve Crook and the staff were voted the NACC Staff of the Year.

The honors rolled in for the Falcons from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The trio of Followell, Utz and Pozezinski all earned All-Region honors on the year. Gina Followell was then voted onto the NFCA All-American First Team and Claudia Utz onto the NFCA All-American Third Team.

The Falcons have eight new faces on the team and 20 returners.

CUW opens the season at the Pointer Invite on Saturday in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

The birds will then soak up the sun in Arizona for 10 games.

The Falcons open the home portion of the schedule on March 24 against Ripon.

NACC play begins March 26 at Dominican. The Falcons are projected to defend their NACC title with 337 points and 25 first-place votes. MSOE and Aurora are projected to be the biggest challenges for the Falcons.
