Softball Finishes the Day on a High Note

TUCSON, Wis. – The Falcons weathered another rainy day on Thursday. After being delayed two hours, the Falcons opened the day against Coe, 6-1. The Blue and White continued to fight and rallied to beat Wisconsin-La Crosse, 5-2, to move to 8-2 on the year.

The Kohawks struck with a run in the first inning, three in the third and two more in the fourth.

The Falcons threatened throughout the first game but could not cross home plate in the first five inning.

Senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) changed that with a home run to left field in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Tori Plowman (Orangeville, Ill.) made her first collegiate appearance in the circle on Thursday.

Claudia Utz led CUW with two hits against Coe.

The Falcons drew first blood against Wisconsin-La Crosse in the second inning.

Claudia Utz started the series with a double off the fence in left field. After sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) advanced her to third, junior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) scored Utz on a shot to the right side of the infield.

The Eagles tied the game in the third inning and took the lead with another run in the sixth inning.

The Falcons responded with four runs in the sixth inning.

A single to center field from Claudia Utz scored Sydney Erdmann.

Megan Bloyer then cleared the bases with a double into the gap in left-center field to score sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.), junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) and Claudia Utz

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) struck out 10 Eagles in the victory.

The Falcons look to close spring break on a high note against the 23rd-ranked Dutch of Central on Friday morning.
