Softball Keeps Title Hopes Alive on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team kept its title hopes alive with a victory over Lakeland on Saturday. The Falcons split the day with the Muskies taking game one, 6-2, and the Falcons rallying to win game two, 5-1.

The Muskies scored the first six runs of the day on Saturday.

The Falcons found the scoreboard in the fourth inning when junior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) sent the ball over the fence in left field. Sophomore Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) the double to center field to score senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) from second base.

Junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) had two strikeouts in the start. Freshman Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) had three strikeouts in relief.

Jasmine Freeze and senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) had two hits each.

The Falcons struck first in game two with a home run to left field for Gabbi Gaziano.

The Muskies tied the game in the sixth inning, but the Falcons ended the threat with a double play to end the inning.

The Falcons earned some insurance runs in the sixth inning. Junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) scored senior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) on a fielder's choice and then Jasmine Freeze cleared the bases again with her second home run of the day to score freshman Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) and junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.)

Jasmine Freeze reeled in the Muskies with eight strikes.

Jess Pozezinski and Gabbi Gaziano were both a perfect three-for-three at the plate in game two.

The Falcons are now 24-10 on the year at 18-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The victory sets up a showdown for the NACC Regular Season title against No. 21 Dominican. If the Falcons win both games, they will claim the title once again.
