Women’s Soccer named Statistical National Champion in shots on goal per game

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team finished the 2019 season as the NCAA Division III statistical national champion in shots on goal per game. The Falcons led the nation with an average of 14.41 shots on goal per game.

"This just shows the amount of talent that we have on this team," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "We have so many players who are able to put up quality shots and it showed. It is a great honor for this team."

The Falcons had three players in the top-100 in shots on goal per game in 2019. Freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) was 23rd in NCAA Division III at 3.10, freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) was 50th at 2.64 and junior Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was 86th at 2.32.

The CUW offense also finished second in seven statistical categories. The Blue and White were second in assists per game (3.18), points per game (11.73), scoring offense (4.27), shots per game (25.41), total assists (70), total goals (94) and total points (258).

Individually, Karoline Haugland was second in the nation in total points with 66 and total goals with 28. She was also fifth in points per game at 3.00 and sixth in goals per game at 1.27. Junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) and Selena Esten were sixth in the nation in total assists with 15 and assists per game at 0.71. Esten is also fifth in total points at 57.
