Falcons Defeat Muskies in Regular Season Finale

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team capped off their regular season with a 3-1 victory over the Lakeland Muskies, finishing the season with an impressive overall record of 11-5-2 and a stellar 8-1-2 mark in Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play.

From the outset, the Falcons were aggressive offensively, earning a corner kick just 32 seconds into the match. Junior Brei Rozmiarek (West De Pere, Wis.) registered the team's first shot on goal in the fourth minute.

The Falcons maintained pressure on the Muskies' defense, forcing additional corner kicks in the 14th, 17th, and 22nd minutes. They broke through in the 24th minute when senior Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored her first goal of the season, finishing a play set up by Rozmiarek and giving CUW a 1-0 lead.

Senior goalkeeper Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) was key in the first half, stopping two shots in a span of just over a minute to keep Lakeland scoreless. In the closing moments of the half, the Falcons struck again off a corner kick, with junior Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.) finding the back of the net, assisted by freshman Madi Schrader (Sugar Grove, Ill.).

Braga continued her solid play with another save just before halftime, leaving CUW with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

After the break, the Falcons showed no signs of slowing down, creating several scoring opportunities early in the second half, highlighted by shots on goal from seniors Sheridan Dorge (Winnipeg, Man.) and Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.).

In the 56th minute, CUW was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box, which Sabrina Moore converted to extend the lead to 3-0.

Although the Muskies managed to score late in the game, the Falcons secured a 3-1 victory.

As a team, CUW outshot Lakeland 19-9 and dominated corner kicks with a 9-0 advantage. Six different Falcons registered shots on goal, showcasing their offensive depth. Defensively, Braga recorded three saves, while Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.) added one save in her time between the posts.

With this win, the Falcons secured the fourth seed in the NACC Tournament and will host the fifth-seeded St. Norbert College Green Knights on Saturday, November 2nd, in the NACC Quarterfinals. The last meeting between these two teams on October 2nd resulted in a decisive 4-0 victory for CUW.
