Women’s Soccer whips Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team returned to the win column with a 6-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday. The victory keeps the Falcons tied atop the NACC standings with Dominican at 24 points at 8-1-0 and the Blue and White soar to 12-3-0 on the year.

Freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) scored her nation-leading 20th goal in the 10th minute on a penalty kick.

Three minutes later, freshman Katelyn Ries (Upland, Calif.) spun the ball in from three yards out off a pass from freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.).

Selena Esten scored her first goal of the game on a header near the far post off a cross from junior Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.).

The Falcons blasted the WLC net in the first half and held a 27-0 shots advantage at halftime.

Selena Esten struck again in the 48th minute as she picked up a rebound from Alexandra Tomich to score.

Esten recorded the hat trick in the 59th minute off a long pass from senior Ashley Yacks (Whittier, Calif.). The assist was the first point for Yacks at CUW.

In the 69th minute, Selena Esten put a shot over the keepers' glove for her fourth goal of the game. Karoline Haugland fed her the pass.

The Warriors scored their lone goal in the 83rd minute.

Selena Esten broke the program record with 16 shots in the game.

Junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) earned her 12th victory of the year for the Falcons.

The Blue and White finished with a 47-2 shots advantage.

CUW returns to action on Saturday at home against Illinois Tech.
