Women’s Soccer wins the battle of Concordias

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Falcons walked away with a victory in the battle of Concordias on Saturday afternoon. The CUW women's soccer team used a 5-1 victory to improve to 7-0-0 on the year and 3-0-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

"Today was a hard-fought team effort," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "Our response to their goal was impressive. Our group came out in the second half and controlled the rest of the match."

Junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) bounced passed three defenders and passed it to an open sophomore Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) who put the ball in past the keepers' ankles.

The Cougars scored on a deep free kick from 48 yards out to tie the game in the 38^th minute.

The Falcons quickly tied the game as Allison McElwee once again pierced through the Cougars' defense and found an open junior Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who found the back of the net 33 seconds after the CUC goal.

In the 43^rd minute, freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) picked up a rebound off the CUC keeper from freshman Claudia Baginski (Naperville, Ill.) and tossed the ball into the back of the net.

Isabel Downs charged down the field and past the Cougars defense to push the lead to 4-1.

In the 74^th minute, freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) sank a shot from 23 yards out off a pass from Isabel Downs.

Junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) recorded seven saves in the win.

The Falcons have scored seven, 11 and five goals in their last three matches. The last time CUW scored five goals in three-straight games was in 2011 against the three same schools.

The Falcons held a 20-15 shots advantage against the Cougars.

The Blue and White have a quick turnaround and will host Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday.
