Women's Soccer claims NACC Tournament crown
The CUW women's soccer team won it's first-ever NACC Tournament title in November with a 2-1 victory over Dominican.
The Stars struck first on Saturday with a goal in the 34th minute.
Freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) leveled the match in the 39th minute with a shot in front of the net off a cross from junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.).
The two teams went into halftime tied at one.
The Stars came out swinging in the second half and held a majority of the possession to open the second half, but the CUW defense and junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) were up to the task.
The Falcons broke through in the 86th minute, when sophomore Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) broke past a pair of defenders and sent the ball past the keeper that came for the ball. Selena Esten fed in the pass.
Kaeley Sterkel secured three saves in the victory.
The Falcons outshot the Stars on Saturday, 12-9.
The Blue and White are making their first NCAA appearance since 2004.
CUW improved to 17-4-0 on the year with their second victory over Dominican in 2019.
The Falcons advanced to the championship game with their first-ever victory over Illinois Tech in the NACC Semifinals.
