Karoline Haugland named CUW Female Athlete of the Year

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin Athletics Department has announced that Karoline Haugland of the women's soccer program has been named the 2019-20 Female Athlete of the Year.

The CUW Athletic Department released its top stories of the year over the past few weeks and this week will announce its four major award winners from the 2019-20 season. Last week, Sam Dunn and Molly O'Connell were announced as the Female Career Achievement Award winners and Sam Schlosser was named Male Career Achievement Award winner, while the Male Athlete of the Year will complete the athletic department's major awards on Thursday.

Haugland made a huge splash with the Falcons in her freshman season with the CUW women's soccer program. The freshman from Bergen, Norway, led the Falcons with 66 points and 28 goals in 22 games played. She scored game-winning goals against Franklin, Benedictine, Dominican and Elmhurst. The CUW freshman also scored four goals against Edgewood and Elmhurst and finished with three goals against Lake Forest, Lakeland and Alverno.

The Norway native also collected multiple awards during the 2019 season. Haugland was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region First Team. In the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, she was named the NACC Offensive Player of the Year, the NACC Freshman of the Year and claimed All-NACC First Team honors.

In NCAA Division III, she was second in the nation in total points with 66 and total goals with 28 and was also fifth in points per game at 3.00 and sixth in goals per game at 1.27.

Haugland helped the Falcons reach new heights in 2019 with a program-record of 17 victories on the year. The program also claimed its first NACC Tournament title in program history with a 2-1 victory over Dominican. Sending CUW to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2004.
