Women's Soccer Ties the Stars
RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team had another classic battle with Dominican on Saturday afternoon. The two teams battled for 90 minutes and finished with a 0-0 tie.
The Stars had the first look of the day in the 10th minute with a shot that was blocked and then a second-chance shot that senior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) controlled.
Braga was tested again in the 18th minute on a diving save off a long-distance shot. The CUW senior notched another save five minutes.
The Falcons' first shot of the match came in the 33rd minute off the boot of freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.).
Senior Bella Rapp (Grafton, Wis.) threatened in the 41st minute with a shot that curved just to the left of the net.
The 42nd minute saw freshman Hailey Whittow (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) send the ball to the net but was blocked by the Dominican defense. Freshman Madi Schrader (Sugar Grove, Ill.) just missed the net with a shot from outside of the box off the corner.
In the 63rd minute, freshman Isabella Wentorf (Racine, Wis.) had a look, but the Stars came up with the save.
The Stars had an opportunity in the 70th minute but they had a shot go wide and another blocked. Four minutes later, Braga collected another saved a shot to the right.
Bella Rapp had a free kick from just outside of the 18-yard box in the 78th minute that the Stars stopped.
The Falcons had one last look in the 84th minute with Isabella Wentorf in the box but it was not meant to be.
The Stars held a 14-7 advantage in shots on Saturday. Isabella Wentorf and Isabella Rapp led the Falcons with two shots.
Brooke Braga was a brick wall once again with six saves.
With the tie, the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech locked up the NACC regular season title. The Falcons also clinched a home match in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Saturday was the first 0-0 tie for the Falcons since Oct. 7, 2017, against Dominican.
The Falcons return to action on Tuesday at Wisconsin-La Crosse in a non-conference battle.
