Women’s Soccer leads NCAA Division III in two categories

MEQUON, Wis. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the national leaders in statistics on Monday afternoon and the Falcons lead NCAA Division III in assists per game and shots on goal per game.

"It is obviously great to be atop of any statistical category," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "The shots category is great, but I think that the assists especially speak well of our team and clearly depicts what type of team we have."

The Falcons lead the nation with 3.55 assists per game. CUW has three student-athletes ranked in the top 100 with junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) ranked fifth in Division III at .82 assists per game. Freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) is 11th at .73 and freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) is 61st at .55.

The Blue and White also lead the country with 16.27 shots on goal per game. Selena Esten is 30th in Division III with 3.09.

CUW is also ranked second in NCAA Division III in six statistical categories. The Falcons claim the silver spot in points per game (13.36), scoring offense (4.91), shots per game (27.27), total assists (39), total goals (54), and total points (147). The Falcons trail St. Joseph's of Brooklyn in four of the six categories.

Individually, Concordia Wisconsin has five student-athletes cracking the top 60 in different categories.

Allison McElwee is fourth in the nation in total assists (nine), fifth in assists per game (.82), 41st in total points (23) and 59th in points per game (2.09).

Karoline Haugland is in the top 60 in five categories. She is sixth in total points (36) and total goals (15), eighth in points per game (3.27), 11th in goals per game (1.36) and 34th in total assists with six.

Selena Esten tracked the top 10 in total assists with eight. She is also in the top 60 in six categories. She is 11th in NCAA Division III in assists per game (.73), 27th in total point (26), 30th in shots on goal per game (3.09), 33rd in points per game (2.36), 45th in game-winning goals (three) and 57th in total goals with nine.

Sophomore Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) cracked the top 60 in total points with 22 total points to be ranked 51st and with nine goals to be ranked 57th in NCAA Division III.

In the net, junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) has the 43rd best goals against average in the nation at 0.568 and has the 57th most minutes played at 950:23.

The Falcons will look to add to their totals on Wednesday night.
