Falcons Split with Rockford

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team hosted the Rockford Regents after a makeup date from earlier in the season.

The Blue and White finished with split scores of 6-7 and 2-1.

In game one, the Regents hopped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Falcons responded in the bottom of the second with a single to right field from sophomore Madison Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) that scored senior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.). Freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) crossed the plate later in the inning off the bat of junior Sydney Erdman (Geneva, Wis.).

The Regents crossed the plate in the top of the third, but the Falcons punched back with a home run in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Kuske.

The fourth inning saw the two teams trade runs with a Rockford homerun and a Falcon RBI from Erdman that scored Wheat.

The Regents notched their second home run of game one in the top of the fifth, but the Falcons bit back with a double from freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) down the left-field line that scored Wheat.

Pozezinski scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to take the 6-5 lead.

The seventh inning saw the Regent take a 7-6 lead off a two-run home run to seal the deal in game one.

Game two saw a total of three runs from both teams combined.

Kuske scored Pozezinski on a single to left field in the bottom of the first to take the 1-0 lead.

That would be all the scoring until the fifth inning when the Falcons crossed Wheat on a fielder's choice from senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.).

Wheat led the team with three runs on three hits in five at-bats on the evening.

The Flock heads to Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday to finish a matchup with the Warriors that was suspended due to weather.
