No. 16 Softball Extinguishes the Inferno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The 16th-ranked Falcons brought out the brooms on a road trip south to Alverno on Monday afternoon. The Blue and White extinguished the Inferno with 15-0 and 8-0 victories to improve to 17-2 and 5-1 in the NACC.

Senior Krystal Cortes (Aurora, Ill.) got the ball rolling in the second inning with a blast up the middle to score sophomore Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) and freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.).

The Falcons feasted with four runs in the fifth inning.

Senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) bounced the ball down the left-field line to score freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

Megan Bloyer transformed a single into left field into an RBI when sophomore Madison Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) scored.

Senior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) smacked the ball through the right side of the infield to land junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and Kelsey Bollon onto home plate.

The Blue and White exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning.

Kelsey Bollon started the spree with a double to left field that added Jess Pozezinski to the scoreboard.

Claudia Utz sent a laser into the gap in right-center field to score Wheat.

Junior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) blasted a double to left field and was able to send home Claudia Utz and Kelsey Bollon.

Krystal Cortes clocked the ball through the middle of the infield to get Taylor Kuske across home plate.

Sophomore Lexi Bridenhagen (Neenah, Wis.) gave the Alverno infield issues and scored Amber Behr on an error.

Jess Pozezinski closed the scoring on a two-run blast over the left-field fence that also scored junior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.).

CUW swiped six bases in game two. Jess Pozezinski and Madison Wheat stole two bags and freshman Anna Ruffolo (Addison, Ill.) and Claudia Utz also stole a base.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) doused the Inferno bats with 17 strikeouts and did not allow a walk in the victory.

The Blue and White built a 12-hit performance in game one with Kelsey Bollon, Claudia Utz and Krystal Cortes all claiming two hits. Cortes led the game with four RBI.

The birds continued to burn Alverno in game two.

Claudia Utz bopped an infield single to the pitcher to start the attack in game two to score junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).

Concordia clipped four runs onto the scoreboard in the third inning.

Jess Pozezinski popped a double into the gap in left-center field to score Claudia Utz.

Madison Wheat later scored Pozezinski with a shot in the infield.

Sydney Erdmann showed her wheels when she reached third bases and safely scored Ashley Zappa and Gabbi Gaziano.

In the fourth inning, Megan Bloyer burnt the Inferno again with a double to centerfield and scored Jess Pozezinski and Kelsey Bollon.

Freshman Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) iced the game with her first collegiate hit with a two-out single to the gap in left-center field to score Taylor Kuske and enforce the run rule.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) kept the Alverno bats cold in game two and finished with only two hits against, with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Claudia Utz led the attack with two of the 10 CUW hits in game two.

Sydney Erdmann and Megan Bloyer both had two RBI.

CUW stole another six bases in the victory.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to play on Thursday against first place Aurora. The Spartans are 10-0 in the NACC and 22-2 on the season.
