Falcons Dominate Doubleheader with Ripon

RHINELANDER, Wis. – The CUW softball team headed to Rhinelander to take on Ripon in some doubleheader action on Thursday night.

The Falcons were lights out in the first game with five runs in the first inning. The first Falcon run proved to be the winning run with a final score of 8-0. Junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) crossed the plate for the winning run for the Falcons after a single put her on base. She stole second and was batted in later that inning.

The Falcons scored one more run in the third inning and two in the fourth to snag the 8-0 victory.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) made quick work of the Ripon batters with 15 strikeouts on 15 batters faced. This was her first perfect game of the young season.

Freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) led the Falcons with two runs as well as three stolen bases.

Sophomore Madison Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) also stole three bases in the first matchup.

In the second game, senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) followed in Followell's footsteps with 11 strikeouts of her 17 batters faced. Wheat crossed the plate in the first inning for the winning run in that 13-1 victory.

Junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) sent one deep for the Falcons on her second at-bat to record the only Falcon homerun of the outing in the second inning.

Erdmann led the Falcons with three runs and four stolen bases in the second game.

The Falcons stole a total of 21 bases in the two games combined with zero strikeouts.

The Falcons switch gears as they head to Oshkosh on Saturday for the UW-Oshkosh Dome Tournament where they will take on both the Titans as well as Lawrence.
