Softball Stumbles in Spring Break Opener

CLERMONT, Fla. – The rain delayed the start of spring break for the Falcons, but the Blue and White were able to get a game in a game against Bethel on a windy Saturday evening in Florida.

The Royals of Bethel were able to score both unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) recorded the first hit for the Falcons with a single to left field in the fourth inning. Junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) then advanced Bollon with a single through the left side of the infield.

The Falcons threatened again in the sixth inning when Kelsey Bollon reached second base. CUW also started the seventh inning with a pair of singles from freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) but the Royals were able to get out of the jam.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) had five strikeouts in six innings in the circle and did not allow an earned run.  Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) kept the Royals off the scoreboard in the seventh inning.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Sunday against Nichols and Cortland.
