Softball Sweeps St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games after a pair of victories on Tuesday at St. Norbert. The Falcons secured a 5-3, 7-2 sweep to improve to 21-9 on the year. The sweep sends Concordia to 15-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Junior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then scored senior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) on a shot to second base.

In the third inning, junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) scored junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) from second base with a single to second base.

The Green and Gold tied the game with two runs in the third inning and another run in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) broke the tie in the seventh inning on a poke to second base that plated sophomore Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.). Jess Pozezinski added to the lead with a smack to right field to send Madi Wheat across home plate.

Junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) earned the victory in the circle with five strikeouts.

Madi Wheat tallied three hits in game one.

The Falcons struck again in the first inning in game two.

Senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) started the scoring with a single that dropped into right field and senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) showed her speed by scoring from second base. Megan Bloyer then doubled to center field and scored Claudia Utz standing up from first base.

Bloyer struck again in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Madi Wheat to score.

The Falcons added three more runs in the fifth inning. Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) doubled to left field to plate Senior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) and Claudia Utz from second and first base. Adrianna Martinez then scored Gaziano with a double of her own to center field.

The Green Knights cut into the Concordia lead with two runs in the fifth inning.

Gabbi Gaziano closed the Tuesday scoring with a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Megan Bloyer to score.

Jasmine Freeze kept the Green Knights silenced with six strikeouts in the victory.

Adrianna Martinez led the contest with three of the 13 hits for CUW.

The Falcons return to action on Friday at Concordia Chicago.
