Home Runs Help No. 15 Softball Sweep Aurora

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Falcons brought out the brooms against Aurora for the second time in program history on Friday afternoon. The Blue and White took game one in nine innings with a 3-2 victory. CUW closed the day with an 11-3 victory in six innings to improve to 19-2 on the year and 7-1 in the NACC.

The Falcons handed Aurora its first NACC loss of the year in a battle of two of the best pitchers in the NACC.

Freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) started the scoring when she crushed the ball with a no-doubt home run to center field.

The Spartans countered with a home run that scaled the fence in centerfield.

Jess Pozezinski broke the tie in the sixth inning when she shot the ball at second base and advanced to third base and scored senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.).

The Black and Blue did not fold and tied the game on a wild pitch. Aurora had runners on second and third base, but CUW got out of the jam.

The CUW defense left four Aurora runners in scoring position in game one.

Freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) called game in the ninth inning with a home run to left field.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) held one of the best offenses in NCAA Division III to four hits in game one. She struck out 16 batters in the victory.

Megan Bloyer had two hits and a stolen base in the victory.

The Spartans struck first in game one with a two-run home run in the first inning, but it was all Concordia from there.

Jess Pozezinski plopped the ball down the right-field line to score junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).

A sacrifice fly from Megan Bloyer then allowed senior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) to cross home plate.

Junior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) blasted the ball off a tree in centerfield to break open the game in the first inning to score Kelsey Bollon and Taylor Kuske.

In the second inning, Kelsey Bollon sent the ball out of the park to score Sydney Erdmann.

Junior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) joined the home run party with a shot down the left-field line to also score Megan Bloyer.

Jess Pozezinski had a solo shot in the fifth inning.

Megan Bloyer called game again in the sixth inning when she sent the ball through the right side of the infield and sophomore Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) scored from second base.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) showed why she is one of the best in the game when she held the Spartans to six hits in game two and to only three hits in the final five innings. Becker finished with two strikeouts.

Kelsey Bollon led the attack with three hits. Jess Pozezinski, Ashley Zappa and Gabbi Gaziano all finished with two.

This is the second time that the Falcons have swept the series from Aurora. The other coming in 2017.

Game two was the first four home run performance for the flock since 2019 against Marian.

Friday was the first time since April 13, 2019, that Aurora lost via the mercy rule.

The Falcons return to Alverno on Saturday when they host Dominican.
