Softball Sweeps Opening Day

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team opened the 2022 season with victories over St. Olaf and St. Catherine on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue and White opened the day with a 5-0 victory against St. Olaf.

The Falcons threw the first punch in the fourth inning when senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) smacked a double into the gap in left-center field to score junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).

Bollon then scored on an infield single from junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and senior Taylor Kuske (Kaukauna, Wis.) then scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, sophomore Madison Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) singled to third base to score junior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.).

Junior Abby Kerrins (Cullom, Ill.) scored on an error in the seventh inning.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) struck out 15 batters and only allowed three hits.

Sydney Erdmann also stole a base in the victory.

The Falcons closed the day in Minnesota with a 4-0 victory over St. Catherine.

The birds blasted all four of their runs in the third inning.

Kelsey Bollon doubled into the gap in right-center field that sent home Sydney Erdmann and Ashley Zappa.

A single from Taylor Kuske then sank a single into the gap in right-center field to score Kelsey Bollon and Madison Wheat.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) silenced St. Catherine's in the circle with four strikeouts.

Claudia Utz was double trouble in game two with a stolen base and not allowing the Wildcats to steal a base.

The Falcons take on Ripon on Thursday afternoon in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
