Last Minute Goal Lifts Men's Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team ended the weekend on a high note. The Falcons rallied to pick up a 3-2 victory over Dubuque. The victory sends the Falcons to 7-10-0 on the year and to 4-4-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period for the second-straight day.

The Spartans struck the first 65 seconds into the second period on a goal from near the blue line when the teams skated on four on four.

Five minutes later, freshman Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) leveled the game at one waiting on the back side off a pass from freshman Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.) after freshman Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.) tossed the first shot on net.

The Spartans reclaimed the lead when a loose puck created a breakaway opportunity for Dubuque.

Sophomore Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.) tied the game in the final minute of the second period when he smashed in a rebound off a shot from Riley Klugerman after a secondary assist to Alex Ochitwa.

Alex Ochitwa scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the game after he danced past the defender and the goalie bit early to toss the puck in the net off assists from Riley Klugerman and Dain Sardelli.

The Falcons held a 55-28 advantage in shots on Sunday.

Dain Sardelli and Alex Ochitwa led the Falcons with six shots.

Sophomore Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) collected 26 saves in the victory.

Sophomore Ben Pizzimenti (Iowa City, Iowa) had two blocks for the Blue and White.

Dubuque did not score on any of its three power-play opportunities on Sunday.

The Falcons look to build a winning streak as they return to action on Friday at St. Norbert. The Green Knights are currently receiving votes in the U.S. College
