Concordia Closes 2023 in Title Game

OSWEGO, N.Y. – For the second-straight day, the Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team battled a team receiving votes in this week's U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) rankings. The Falcons faced the Mustangs of Stevenson in Maryland in the Oswego State Holiday Classic presented by Best Western Plus and Clarion Hotel & Suites Riverfront. The Mustangs claimed the crown with a 5-1 victory. The Falcons head into 2024 with a 4-9 record.

The Mustangs struck twice in the first period to take an early lead.

Sophomore Preston Hazelton (Lake Orion, N.Y.) lit the lamp in the first two minutes of the second period when he deflected in a shot from the blue line on a shot from freshman Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.) off a faceoff victory from sophomore Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.).

Stevenson finished the second period with three-straight goals.

Sophomore Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) finished the day with 42 saves.

The Concordia defense did not allow Stevenson to score on three different power play opportunities.

Stevenson held a 47-28 advantage in shots on Sunday.

Sophomore Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.) led the CUW attack with five shots against the Mustangs.

Freshman Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.), freshman Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) and Gabe Rosek were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Falcons return to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play on Friday against Lake Forest to fight for the Border Battle Cup.
